With this funding, the COPS Office supports projects that allow for the identification and expansion of promising practices and produces knowledge products that follow the principles of good guidance: Quality-driven, with an emphasis on action statements to drive promising practices and reduce variations in performance Evidence-based, with recommendations that are consistent with the weight of the best available evidence identified through systematic review Accessible, with clear language and manageable lengths that are appropriate and relevant for the law enforcement field Memorable, to encourage immediate actions or aid for the complex situations law enforcement professionals face.

In FY, CPD funds may be used to support the following topic areas: Implementation of Crisis Intervention Teams - The COPS Office is providing pilot grants directly to state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement agencies to create or expand the use of crisis intervention teams to embed mental and behavioral health services with law enforcement to better respond to individuals in crisis in the community.

These pilot projects will fund activities including overtime for sworn personnel, salaries and contracts for mental health professionals, and costs associated with training for personnel. Crisis Intervention Training Provider - The COPS Office will fund a national training provider to support all law enforcement agencies in creating or expanding crisis intervention teams by developing and delivering online training program for the COPS Training Portal and identifying and developing other resources as needed.

The COPS Office anticipates the provider will train a minimum of 5, law enforcement personnel sworn and civilian in agencies across the country.

Finally, the provider will support and work with the cohort awarded through the Implementation of Crisis Intervention Teams subcategory and be responsible for periodic group convenings and developing an implementation guide that highlights promising practices and guidance based on the cohort's experience.

Proposals should be responsive to the topic selected, significantly advance the field of community policing, and demonstrate an understanding of community policing as it pertains to the application topic. Applicants must identify specific program goals that will be directly accomplished if awarded CPD Microgrants funding. Eligible applicants are all local, state, and tribal law enforcement agencies.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit an application that shows partnerships with key organizations including institutions of higher education and nonprofit organizations in order to build strong working relationships.

Innovative and creative COPS Office resources help law enforcement engage community leaders, foster restorative justice, build lasting partnerships, and improve the health of our communities. The COPS Office will provide funding to law enforcement agencies seeking to develop or enhance programs that focus on building trust and legitimacy between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Officer Engagement - When law enforcement officers are engaged and feel supported, they are better able to protect and serve their communities. Instituting effective workforce measures such as recruitment and retention policies and programs, creating resources to support officers and deputies through challenging times, and creating opportunities to develop and nurture positive interactions between law enforcement and the community all go hand in hand for creating an environment where officers are engaged and valued.
