My touchpad is a Synaptics based Dell touchpad rather than an Alps. Since you said this driver is the pre-installed one, I would first look to Dell's support site to see if an updated driver has been posted for your laptop. I'm not very familiar with the Alps touchpad, as all the laptops I have had from Dell in the last few years have been Synaptics.
